Bella
I ran blindly, my feet carrying me forwards as though they knew exactly where I needed to go. By the time I looked around at where I was, the evening light was beginning to draw in. I shivered in the light jacket I was wearing and cursed myself for not going home.
I pushed the door open to Aidan’s apartment block and slowly climbed the stairs. My mind was in turmoil and I suddenly understand why I’d been so indecisive all along. Part of me knew my feelings. Knew what I thought of Aidan. Perhaps I’d been like this from the moment I set eyes on him.
I didn’t think I believed in that. It sounded more like something happy couples said to make single people around them jealous. I never thought for one second I could possibly be one of those people. But it kind of made sense.
I’d suffered a loss and it wasn’t all because of Tanya. Inside I’d decided Aidan and I couldn’t be together. Decided that we would never work and so it was easier to push him away than to admit how I was really feeling.
Reaching his apartment door I knocked. When there was no answer I slumped onto the ground. My body had decided this was where I needed to be. Right here and I had no intention of moving until Aidan came home. But could I tell him how I really felt? Could I dump that on him? He didn’t deserve my certain brand of crazy. He deserved so much better than that.
I didn’t know how long I sat there. My body went numb and I shivered with the cold. The hard cement floor had chilled me to the bone. Sank deep inside me until I wasn’t even fully aware of my surroundings.
Aidan’s hand on my cheek made me jump. I cried out in pain as I moved suddenly, my body coming alive. Or at least it tried to come alive. Cramps pierced through my body as the blood began to pump again properly.
Chewing my lip I let Aidan pull me to my feet. I was unsteady and I had the faint beginnings of pins and needles in my feet when I stood in front of him. The look in his blue eyes was one filled with pain. I reached out to him, ran my fingers down along the side of his face until I reached his jaw. His face felt rough, the dark stubble coarse beneath my fingers.
“Bella, I…” He opened his mouth to speak and I pressed my lips to his, silencing the words he was trying to get out. Our kiss was soft. Aidan held still against me, perhaps afraid that if he moved it might make me change my mind.
I drew away from him and stared up into his eyes. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have sent you away last night… I was so wrong, I know that now.”
He crushed his lips to mine, stealing the air from my lungs as he pressed my back up against his door.
